IBA Newsletter: February 2021
2 February 2021IBA Newsletter: December 2020
1 December 2020Dear members,
As we enter the new year, we hope that you are safe and well. Though we have faced numerous challenges in 2020, both within the biennial network and beyond, the past year has offered us the opportunity to grow and to better understand the needs of the biennial community in ways we look forward to contributing to.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support of the International Biennial Association (IBA). We hope to continue to move towards creating solidarity within this growing community and to see another year filled with art from all over the world.
Coming Soon in PASS: Journal of the International Biennial Association
A month ago, PASS became an online platform. The journal is already assembling readers from around the world. Join and inform the conversation on www.passjournal.org.
In 2021, we are excited to be publishing new contents monthly, allowing us all to engage with ideas carefully, over time, together!
Up next, in January, is the first instalment of Basak Senova and Sylvie Fortin’s two-part conversation with the curatorial team of the 13th Shanghai Biennale (Andrés Jaque, Filipa Ramos, Lucia Pietroiusti, Marina Otero, and You Mi)—a fascinating look at a biennial in the making. Also in January, Anne Barlow and Sylvie Fortin meet with the artist Zineb Sedira to discuss the import of biennials on artists’ practice, and Sedira’s upcoming project for the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
PASS also features interviews, essays, and case studies by Adelina Cüberyan von Fürstenberg / Bose Krishnamachari / Claire Tancons / Denise Ferreira da Silva / Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro / Gerardo Mosquera / Iara Boubnova / Jens Hoffmann / Jochen Volz / Jonatan Habib Engqvist / Kitty Scott / Maria Thereza Alves / Natasha Ginwala / Nav Haq / Nevenka Šivavec / Patrick Flores / Raqs Media Collective / Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens / Solange O. Farkas / Xenia Kalpaktsoglou / Zairong Xiang.
PASS bears witness to the critical and experimental role of perennial art events such as biennials and triennials around the world. It presents diverse approaches and divergent perspectives on contemporary art biennials as institutions, curatorial endeavours, artistic opportunities, and public projects. It examines the contemporary art biennial as an active, critical, and evolving form that mobilises and sustains relationships between artists, sites, and audience on varied scales and in different contexts. PASS also aims to advance learning, debate, and advocacy while shaping the public profile of biennials.
PASS is a program of the International Biennial Association.
