We are pleased to announce the next edition of our IBA Stage series, this time dedicated to the 13th MOMENTUM – Nordic Biennale of Contemporary Art, one of the leading biennials in the Nordic region and an important reference point for contemporary art practice internationally. This is the first time that MOMENTUM joins as a guest of IBA Stage, and we are delighted to expand our circle of guest biennials. By opening these conversations to a wider public, we hope to continue fostering dialogue across geographies and practices, building bridges between biennials worldwide.

Founded in 1998 and produced by Galleri F 15 in Moss, Norway, MOMENTUM has for over twenty-five years offered a platform for curatorial experimentation and critical reflection on the exhibition format. Since its 11th edition, the biennale has been closely connected to the island of Jeløya, where landscapes of forests, fjords, and coastal environments provide a unique context for site-specific works.

Curated by Morten Søndergaard, the 2025 edition, Between/Worlds: Resonant Ecologies, explores sound as a medium for artistic practice. The exhibition invites audiences to step into a state of “unprepared listening,” tuning into the resonant ecologies of the city, the forest, the fjord, and the gallery.

As Søndergaard writes:

“Between/Worlds: Resonant Ecologies seeks to unravel the resonant connections that tie human and non-human ecologies. Sound, as a medium, shifts our sensibility, it attunes us to worlds otherwise hidden, invites us to experience the unseen, and propels us beyond human-centric narratives. This is a biennale that prioritises experience, imagination, and the profound momentum of art that vibrates between worlds.”

In total, around 40 projects are presented across Galleri F 15, the city of Moss, and the surrounding island landscapes, situating the biennale within an expanded terrain of artistic and ecological encounter. This 13th edition is also the first under the directorship of Lise Pennington, marking a new chapter in the history of MOMENTUM.

For this IBA Stage session, we are joined by Lise Pennington, Director of MOMENTUM and Galleri F 15 and Jacob Kirkegaard, who exhibiting in this year’s edition, who will discuss how Between/Worlds: Resonant Ecologies unfolds across curatorial, institutional, and artistic dimensions.
