April 9 – November 1, 2026
Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Franciscan Museum and Gallery Gorica – Livno announces the 4th edition of the International Triennial of Graphic Arts Livno. The triennial program begins on April 9, 2026 with an exhibition by the distinguished versatile artist Halil Tikveša. The programme of the 4th International Triennial of Graphic Arts Livno opens with an exhibition by one of the pioneers of printmaking and one of the most versatile artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Halil Tikveša is a multifaceted visual artist – suggestive, sensual and at times provocative, depending on the intention of the message. Since the 1960s, he has explored a wide range of artistic media, including drawing, printmaking, painting, assemblage and objects. Through his distinctive contribution to the art of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and as one of the key protagonists in the development of postmodern artistic thinking in the second half of the twentieth century, Tikveša unquestionably ranks among the great graphic artists of the region.
Over the course of his long artistic career, three thematic strands have come to define his printmaking oeuvre: Homeland, the Mediterranean and Eroticism. These three cycles by this remarkable graphic artist are presented in the exhibition in Livno as part of the programme of the 4th International Triennial of Graphic Arts Livno.
The exhibition offers a selection from the artist’s printmaking oeuvre from the 1960s and 1970s. Through intimate, surreal scenes executed in aquatint and etching, and through a synthesis of abstraction and figuration rendered in soft, diffuse gradations of light, Tikveša created what may be seen as his most poetic tribute to his homeland – to the trupica, to sandy coves, and to her – the woman.
The grand opening of the 4th International Triennial of Graphic Arts Livno will take place on June 26, 2026.
