We are extremely happy to have a last minute addition to the speakers for tomorrow’s IBA Stage in Doris Ghetta, Founding Director of Biennale Gherdëina. As we always aim to give our viewers a comprehensive sense of a biennial and its making, having with us the person who initiated the biennial in 2008 and leads it till today is a great occasion to understand the project in its entirety. Coming from a background in the commercial sector with the experience of running a gallery in Ortisei (one of Val Gardena’s main settlements) and Milan, Doris has developed Biennale Gherdëina as a space to develop critical thinking and promote cultural exchange through the most relevant relevant contemporary art research.
Doris Ghetta is the founder and director of Biennale Gherdëina, a project born in 2008 as a side event of Manifesta which has now become in its ninth edition an important festival of contemporary art in the public space in Val Gardena, Italy, in close connection with the Ladin language minority and its culture. In 2014 she also founded Galleria Doris Ghetta, a contemporary art gallery based in Ortisei in the heart of the Dolomites World Heritage. In 2021 she opened a gallery venue in Milan, thus confirming her desire to promote the flourishing of contemporary art, the development of critical thinking and the education in art and culture through interchange between local artists and the most contemporary international art research.
To have the possibility to hear and discuss with the individuals behind biennials has been a key component of what we believe IBA can offer to our members and the wider public and we value your participation through our live streams. As always IBA Stage events are meant as a moment to hear about a project through its makers and have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session at the end of the presentation.
