IBA Newsletter: March 2021
28 February 2021IBA Newsletter: January 2021
1 January 2021Dear members,
We hope 2021 has been treating you well so far. As the world heals and settles into a new normal, we are happy to see biennials from all over the world returning from a state of postponement with new dates to look forward to.
Our Working Committees have also been working diligently to make this year an eventful one for the association and our members within the biennial community.
Thank you for your continued support of the International Biennial Association (IBA).
Coming Soon in PASS: Journal of the International Biennial Association
This past month, PASS’s Editorial Committee has joyously been at work designing the journal’s editorial calendar. The conversations begun during IBA’s last General Assembly provide both a framework and fertile ground for our endeavour. We look forward to sharing the work, ideas, proposals, and provocations of biennial artists, makers, and thinkers with you every month, throughout the year.
Up next, in February, curator Yuko Hasegawa shares her thoughts on biennials in a time of transition. And, in the second instalment of our two-part conversation with the curatorial team of the 13th Shanghai Biennale (Andrés Jaque, Filipa Ramos, Lucia Pietroiusti, Marina Otero, and You Mi), we take a deeper look at this biennial in the making.
PASS also features interviews, essays, and case studies by Adelina Cüberyan von Fürstenberg / Bose Krishnamachari / Claire Tancons / Denise Ferreira da Silva / Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro / Gerardo Mosquera / Iara Boubnova / Jens Hoffmann / Jochen Volz / Jonatan Habib Engqvist / Kitty Scott / Maria Thereza Alves / Natasha Ginwala / Nav Haq / Zineb Sedira / Nevenka Šivavec / Patrick Flores / Raqs Media Collective / Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens / Solange O. Farkas / Xenia Kalpaktsoglou / Zairong Xiang.
ABOUT PASS
PASS is a program of the International Biennial Association that assembles readers from over 75 countries around the world. The editorial platform bears witness to the critical and experimental role of perennial art events such as biennials and triennials around the world. It presents diverse approaches and divergent perspectives on contemporary art biennials as institutions, curatorial endeavours, artistic opportunities, and public projects. It examines the contemporary art biennial as an active, critical, and evolving form that mobilises and sustains relationships between artists, sites, and audience on varied scales and in different contexts. PASS also aims to advance learning, debate, and advocacy while shaping the public profile of biennials.
Join us and inform the conversation on www.passjournal.org and engage with us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and email.
