KATJA NOVITSKOVA
MAMAROO (SMOULDERING BRAIN, GROWTH POTENTIAL)
The electronic baby swing, padded with patterned resin diaphragms, alluding to the nascency of machine consciousness, represents part of an eerie prenatal environment inhabited by mutant forms. It is accompanied by De Novo Synthesis, which deals with potential life forms that technology could enable. Algorithms are trained/fed from the image archive of Katja Novitskova that includes documentary images and sketches of her work, as well as visual research material on biotechnology. Digital data processing and sophisticated filtering mechanisms synthesise organic forms, patterns and poetic shapes – harbingers of a posthuman vision that at the same time already in their “embryonic phase” appear as kinds of cultural fossils.

IT’S SO PHYSICAL
An environment merging reality and fiction digests collective trauma and the theme of spirituality. The absurd tale about a fictional conspiracy of tapeworms, who narrate the tale, raises a sarcastic eyebrow at the idea that “leaving the body is so fucking easy today” and asks the question we all need to ask ourselves: How do we want to, and how can we experience an authentic connection with the world around us and achieve inner transformation while remaining aware of the daily material reality of these bodies.

»Like the bishop (or Sonic) on the chessboard, you are faced with objects that are not only hypermodern but part of modernity itself: they are the consequence and cause of its engine and part of its speculative and engineering nature. Their indeterminacy, incompleteness and absolute virtuality testify precisely to this temporal suspension or to the fact that they are unfinished objects that have yet to be realised (whose existence has yet to be earned)…«
