We are pleased to welcome Sonia Hurtarte as a newly elected member of the IBA Board of Directors, voted in during the 12th General Assembly in Liverpool.
As Executive Director of Fundación Paiz, Sonia brings to IBA an experienced leadership approach rooted in strategic development and cross-sector collaboration. Her work at Fundación Paiz includes spearheading organizational restructuring and building alliances with government, academia, civil society, and the private sector to strengthen Guatemala’s cultural ecosystem, with the Bienal de Arte Paiz as a key initiative.
With a background spanning retail, consulting, and digital media, Sonia is also a committed educator and cultural strategist. She has taught at several leading universities, collaborated with the Disney Institute, and serves on multiple boards dedicated to healthcare and women’s empowerment.
Sonia holds an MBA from Universidad Francisco Marroquín and a BS in Industrial Psychology from Pennsylvania State University, along with executive education from Kellogg, UC Berkeley, and Michigan. Fluent in Spanish, English, and French, she is deeply committed to fostering innovation and sustainability in the cultural sector.
