Opening today, Sharjah Biennial 14: Leaving the Echo Chamber (SB14) takes place in venues across the emirate of Sharjah. The fourteenth edition of the Biennial features three distinct platforms, each organised by one of the three curators: Zoe Butt, Omar Kholeif and Claire Tancons. SB14 includes works by over 80 artists, including more than 60 new commissions and new works.

Zoe Butt – Journey Beyond the Arrow

Zoe Butt is a curator and writer based in Vietnam. Her practice centres on building critically thinking and historically conscious artistic communities and fostering dialogue among countries of the Global South.

Her SB14 platform, Journey Beyond the Arrow, provides deeper context to the movement of humanity and the tools that have enabled or hindered its survival. This platform seeks to emphasise the necessity of exchange and diversity across the globe and throughout human history.

Omar Kholeif – Making New Time

Omar Kholeif is a writer, curator and editor whose work focuses on the intersection of art, global politics and emerging technologies.

His SB14 platform, Making New Time, is a provocation that shows how material culture can be reimagined through the lenses of artists whose political agency, activism and astute observations extend the limits of our beliefs.

Claire Tancons – Look for Me All Around You

Claire Tancons is a curator and scholar invested in the discourse and practice of the postcolonial politics of production and exhibition.

Her SB14 platform, Look for Me All Around You, manifests in a state of emergence under conditions of performance. It revels in displaced artefacts, coded languages, sonic disturbances, transient presences, light flashes and shadow imprints. This platform will feature a number of performances, including new commissions.
