HYPER-POSSIBLE 3rd Coventry Biennial

After kicking off our 2022 IBA Stage program in March we are extremely pleased to continue this series, thought as an occasion for biennials to present their most recent project for those audiences who did not have the occasion to visit in person by hosting Coventry Biennial and its 3rd edition: HYPER-POSSIBLE.
Coventry Biennial was founded in 2017 as an artist-led initiative with a strong focus on the activation and inclusion of local cultural resources responding to the city’s complex history, geography, built environment and relationships. It has followed since its inception a vision that sees it playing an active part in provoking and participating in the growing cultural debates in Coventry and Warwickshire as well as nationally and internationally with a strong belief that a successful contemporary art festival will deliver benefits for artists, audiences, the image of the city and it’s position in the region.
Its 3rd edition, titled HYPER-POSSIBLE curated by Ryan Hughes (also director of Coventry Biennial) and Anneka French (artist, curator and independent researcher), wants to explore the possibility of radical collaborative artistic practices in the Coventry region. HYPER-POSSIBLE looks at the Coventry region through new commissions and works from national collections to highlight its unique aspects and interconnection to the increasingly complex global dynamic.
HYPER-POSSIBLE references the radical nature of our city’s history while also signifying a positive way forward following a deeply difficult 2020 and 2021. The exhibition explores the legacies of artist-led networks, activisms and teachings since the 1960s, which distinguish the city as an outstanding exemplar of innovative, experimental and radical artistic practice.
