3:00 pm (Çanakkale/GMT+3)
We are thrilled to welcome Deniz Erbas as our guest presenter for this month’s IBA Stage, where she will discuss the recently concluded Çanakkale Biennial. Deniz will share her insights as the Executive Curator of CABININ (Çanakkale Biennial Initiative) and the Mahal Art Center, providing a closer look at the themes, challenges, and impact of the Biennial in the context of today’s art landscape in Turkey and abroad.
Born in Istanbul and currently based in Çanakkale, Deniz has a background in curatorial practice and art management. Her career spans between coordinating projects for the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Programme, directing the “Boğaziçi Chronicles” residency program, and curating the “Art Creators/Art Educators” exhibition on the history of art education in Turkey. Over the years, she has curated and co-curated numerous international exhibitions across cities including Tbilisi, Munich, Thessaloniki, and Paris. Deniz has also contributed to conferences and collaborations with prestigious organizations like the Venice Biennale, AICA, and IBA.
Since moving to Çanakkale in 2012, Deniz has been instrumental in shaping the Çanakkale Biennial, fostering a vibrant platform for artistic dialogue and cultural exchange. The Biennial reflects Deniz’s commitment to exploring interconnections between local contexts and global perspectives, creating a space for art to engage with pressing social, cultural, and environmental issues.
Join us this Friday to hear Deniz’s reflections on the Çanakkale Biennial!
To have the possibility to hear and discuss with the individuals behind biennials has been a key component of what we believe IBA can offer to our members and the wider public and we value your participation through our live streams. As always IBA Stage events are meant as a moment to hear about a project through its makers and have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session at the end of the presentation.
