We, at the International Biennial Association (IBA), are delighted to announce the election of Hoashi Aki as our new Vice President and member of the Executive Board.
Hoashi Aki was elected by the IBA Board following the resignation of former Vice President Barbara Moore, taking on this new responsibility after many years of active engagement with our Association. A member of IBA since its founding in 2013 and a member of our Board since 2021, Aki has accompanied much of IBA’s development and growth, contributing her experience and perspective to the conversations that continue to shape our network.
Her appointment comes at an important moment for IBA, as we continue to expand our activities across different regions while strengthening the relationships between our members. We are therefore particularly pleased to welcome to the Executive Board someone who already knows our Association closely and who has long shared our commitment to dialogue, exchange, and solidarity across the international biennial community.
On accepting her new position, Hoashi Aki said:

Aki brings to this new role extensive experience in biennial making and international cultural exchange, particularly through her longstanding work with the Yokohama Triennale and across the Asian cultural landscape. Her professional trajectory closely reflects many of the values at the heart of IBA’s work: sustained international exchange, institutional collaboration, and the creation of networks that enable knowledge and experience to circulate across different cultural contexts.
Hoashi Aki has directed the strategic management of the Yokohama Triennale as Deputy Executive Director of its Organizing Committee since 2011, alongside her ongoing affiliation with the Yokohama Museum of Art. Her expertise in international cultural exchange encompasses art-exchange programs across Asia with the Japan Foundation and serving as Director of the ARCUS Project artist-in-residence program. A member of the IBA since its founding in 2013, she has served on its Board since 2021.
We are very happy to continue working alongside Aki in this new capacity and look forward to the contribution she will make to the Executive Board as we collectively continue to strengthen IBA as a space for exchange, cooperation, and dialogue among biennials around the world.
