The Aichi Triennale 2025 (September 13 – November 30, 2025) announces the full program for its Performing Arts and Learning Programs alongside some exhibition highlights. Under the direction of Artistic Director Hoor Al Qasimi (President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation), the 6th edition of the Triennale will bring together 61 artists/groups from 22 countries and territories, each selected for their relevance to the theme, A Time Between Ashes and Roses.
Newly revealed exhibition highlights include artistic duo Basel Abbas (b. 1983 Cyprus) and Ruanne Abou-Rahme (b. 1983 USA), based in New York and Ramallah, Palestine, marking their debut presentation in Japan by participating in both the Contemporary Art and Performing Arts programs. During the opening weekend (September 13–14), the duo will stage the world premiere of a newly commissioned performance featuring live music by guest musicians, Baraari, Julmud, and Haykal invited from Palestine. Celebrated manga artist Morohoshi Daijiro (b. 1949 Japan), who has been well respected since his debut in 1970, will participate in the Triennale with a newly commissioned original illustration created specifically for this edition of the festival. Barrack (Furuhata Taiki + Kondo Kanako) (formed 2017 Japan), which has operated a café and gallery in Seto City since 2017, will run a café-restaurant and exhibition space at the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum during the festival. Open to all visitors, the space will serve as a cultural meeting point connecting the local community and international guests. Sasaki Rui (b.1984 Japan) will present a new installation at a former public bathhouse in Seto City, which was in operation until just a few years ago. Her work will explore the everyday lives and connection to nature in Seto, a region closely tied to ceramic production.
The Learning Program aims to create an environment in which everyone can feel welcome and enjoy meaningful engagement. The Triennale’s mission is to create a framework that encourages visitors, people from the local community, and the volunteers who have supported the art festival for a decade and a half since Aichi Triennale 2010, to participate actively in their respective roles. Learning centers will be set up at the Aichi Arts Center as well as in Seto City, providing spaces for visitors to explore the festival from diverse perspectives. The Accessibility Program will offer viewing support for various individuals, including those with visual or auditory impairments and those accompanied by small children. Easy-to-read public information materials will also be distributed to enhance accessibility. In collaboration with participating artist studio Hive Earth (formed 2017 Ghana), Aichi Triennale will present the Rammed Earth Project (Convex and Concave) at the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum – an installation themed around rammed earth and earth materials.
Performing Arts Program
