41st EVA International: “It Takes a Village” Announces Full Programme and Opening Events

EVA International – Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art announced the full programme for its 41st edition, opening on August 29, 2025 in Limerick.

Curated by Eszter Szakács in collaboration with the EVA team, the Guest Programme, titled It Takes a Village, draws inspiration from the proverb “It takes a village to raise a child,” reflecting on collaborative partnerships, social justice, and historical repair. This edition will present a dynamic constellation of Irish and international artists whose practices embody collective thinking, community-building, and radical care.

Collaborative partnerships include OFF-Biennale Budapest (Gypsy Criminals and Gideon Horváth) and Ormston House, Limerick (Bíodh Orm Anocht featuring Ciarán Ó Dochartaigh, Laura Ni Fhlaibhín, Seán Hannan, and Kiera O’Toole).

EVA Platform Commissions

Selected by Iarlaith Ní Fheorais and Roy Claire Potter, the EVA Platform Commissions explore expanded definitions of access, with works by:

• Éireann and I (Joselle Ntumba and Beulah Ezeugo)
• Bridget O’Gorman
• Colm Keady-Tabbal
• Olivia Normile
• Lyónn Wolf (in collaboration with El Reid Buckley and Dyke Nite)

Opening Weekend Events

The biennial’s opening weekend will feature a series of artist talks, performances, and live events, with performances by:

• Eimear Walshe

The official opening will be followed by an afterparty collaboration between DYKE NITE and The Breeding Room, taking place on August 29, 2025 at Dolan’s, Limerick (doors open at 9PM). Limited capacity: pre-booking is essential via eva.ie.
