It is with huge honour and joy that Curitiba International Biennial of Contemporary Art announces that it has won the Rodrigo Mello Franco de Andrade Award, awarded by the Brazilian Association of Art Critics (ABCA) – the biggest and most respected organization of contemporary art critique in Brazil. The award honours institutions all over the country for their program and activity in the field of art and has existed traditionally since 1978. This is the second time that Curitiba Biennial has won an award from the ABCA. The previous award was received in 2011 as a highlight of the year award.
The official announcement of the winners from the 2017 ABCA Award was done on Thursday morning (April 19) after the ascertainment of the votes done by the assembly in São Paulo (SP), at the Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and Ecology (MUBE). The award is the result of the voting of 150 associates from all over the country and the most respected art critics of Brazil nowadays. The presentation of the award will be on May 22 in São Paulo, the capital.
Currently, the Brazilian Association of Art Critics is headed by Maria Amélia Bulhões, doctor of the University of São Paulo (USP), professor and adviser of the Visual Arts Program at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). The ABCA has its appearance connected to the International Association of Art Critics (AICA), founded in 1948, in Paris, France, an initiative of UNESCO.
In 2018, the Curitiba Biennial celebrates its 25 years of history with a commemorative exhibition, soon to be announced on the official website, Facebook page and Instagram profile of the Curitiba Biennial.
