To all IBA members and supporters of biennials around the world, in light of the news surrounding COVID-19, the association is currently working to reassess future activities while exploring methods of support to the membership.
As an organisation that is connected to and works closely with institutions reaching across the globe, we acknowledge measures taken by various governments to combat developing conditions and the impact it has had on the biennial community. Though we are always happy to promote and support international biennials, we highly encourage those who are able to engage in safe protocols with consideration for the public and themselves. During these unpredictable times, we advocate for everyone to make use of digital communication options while practising social responsibility based on instructions and guidance rooted in confirmed information.
With the closure and postponement of many encounters including but not limited to member biennials, there is a growing need to provide support and guidance to fellow institutions that, depending on their locations and the regulations, would greatly benefit from the exchange of ideas and discussions surrounding complexities that are expected to have considerable influence on future events.

Regarding future IBA events, we have been working closely with our hosts for the 7th General Assembly at the Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art to create an interactive programme for IBA members who would be attending from all over the world. Though originally scheduled to take later in the year, we are closely monitoring the situation while taking current and future matters surrounding safety and potential issues regarding travel into consideration. In the event that transit any IBA event is not possible due to risks and limitations placed in response to the evolving situation, we will release updates including details covering adjustments and postponements on our website and social media outlets.
