EVA International—Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art—has announced the full list of participating artists and partnerships for its 41st edition, set to take place across venues in Limerick from August 29 to October 26, 2025. With an emphasis on collaboration and shared processes, this edition promises to bring together artists, collectives, and institutions to engage with Ireland’s regional social and political landscapes.
What makes EVA International unique in the biennial landscape is its multi-layered approach, expanding beyond the Guest Programme to include commissions and special partnerships. By integrating various strands of artistic engagement, the biennial fosters a platform for contemporary art supporting both emerging and established artists through different forms of participation.
Curated by Eszter Szakács in collaboration with the EVA team (Matt Packer, Eimear Redmond, Ailbhe W. Drohan), the Guest Programme for the 41st EVA International takes inspiration from the proverb “It takes a village to raise a child.” This theme underscores the importance of collective efforts in shaping artistic discourse, recognizing that artworks and projects are embedded in broader social, political, and infrastructural networks.
The programme seeks to create a dynamic platform where artistic practices reflect and respond to communal experiences, histories, and alternative socio-economic models. Through site-specific projects, restaged presentations, and socially engaged research, It Takes a Village will bring together a diverse range of perspectives and narratives, fostering new dialogues within both local and global contexts.
Among the participating artists are Noor Abuarafeh, Reza Afisina, Marwa Arsanios, Ana Bravo Pérez, Ruth Clinton and Niamh Moriarty, Family Connection (Glenda Martinus, Rudsel Martinus, Jörgen Gario, and Quinsy Gario), damdam (a collective of collectives), Ciarán Ó Dochartaigh, Yazan Khalili, Anikó Loránt, Naeem Mohaiemen, Eoghan Ryan, and Eimear Walshe.
The program is also enriched by key partnerships, including OFF-Biennale Budapest (Gypsy Criminals and Gideon Horváth) and Ormston House in Limerick (Bío Orm Anocht, featuring Ciarán Ó Dochartaigh, Laura Ni Fhlaibhín, Seán Hannan, and Keira O’Toole). These collaborations reinforce EVA International’s commitment to international dialogue and exchange.
A significant component of the biennial, the Platform Commissions initiative, will present new works selected by Iarlaith Ní Fheorais and Roy Claire Potter. This year’s commissioned artists include Éireann and I (Joselle Ntumba and Beulah Ezeugo), Bridget O’Gorman, Colm Keady-Tabbal (in partnership with Beirut Art Center), Olivia Normile, and Lyónn Wolf (in partnership with El Reid Buckley and Dyke Nite). Responding to themes of access and inclusion, these commissions contribute to the ongoing discourse on cultural participation and engagement.
With a strong focus on collaboration and exchange, EVA International confirms its role as a key platform for contemporary art in Ireland and beyond. The 41st edition’s diverse program aims to spark new conversations about the ways in which biennials can serve as spaces for communal engagement, shared knowledge, and imagining our future.
