Join us in celebrating the 14th edition of the Bamako Photographic Biennale, Rencontres de Bamako, a pivotal event in African photography and contemporary art. Taking place from November 16, 2024, to January 16, 2025, this year’s biennial is helmed by Artistic Director Igo Diarra, a longstanding member and Board member of the International Biennial Association (IBA). Under his leadership, Rencontres de Bamako continues to shine as a vibrant meeting point for artists, curators, and audiences from across the globe.

This year’s edition, titled La Panafricaine, features an exceptional group exhibition showcasing 30 artists whose works represent the creative dynamism of Africa and its diaspora. The selection, announced earlier this year, highlights an impressive range of talent, confirming the biennial’s role as a leader in contemporary photography.

The Bamako Encounters hold a unique position as one of the longest-running biennials on the African continent. With its emphasis on fostering dialogue, collaboration, and representation, the biennial underscores the transformative power of photography in connecting diverse audiences and perspectives.

As Artistic Director, Igo Diarra brings not only his extensive expertise but also his deep commitment to the IBA’s values of inclusivity, sustainability, and global exchange. A respected cultural leader and advocate, Igo has been instrumental in elevating the biennial’s impact, reaffirming its role as an essential platform for African voices in the arts.
