Manifesta 14

The IBA 9th General Assembly (October 18th to 22nd, Prishtina – Kosovo) is quickly approaching and we are excited to be hosted by Manifesta in its current temporary home in Prishtina. To give our hosts the right space to present their project we have invited Hedwig Fijen (Founding director of Manifesta) and Catherine Nichols (Curator of Manifesta14) to join us for the upcoming IBA Stage, which will take place on Wednesday October 12th at 6.30pm Prishtina time. While those of you who will join us for the General Assembly will have an occasion to visit the exhibition on site, we realise that not all our members will be able to attend in person. Thus, while it is the first time in which an ongoing biennial is invited we believe it was the right occasion to break this non-written rule.
Manifesta, the European Nomadic Biennial, changes location every two years. Founded in the early 1990s, Manifesta rethinks the relation between culture and civic society, investigating and instigating positive social change through contemporary culture in response to, and in close dialogue with, the social sphere of the Host City and its communities. Manifesta has consistently chosen unexpected host locations that reflect Europe’s ever-changing DNA to shed light on a world defined by changing ethical and aesthetic imperatives. Manifesta, as a recurring event, has transformed itself into a multi-layered and inclusive instrument of civic engagement projects.
The 14th edition opened in Prishtina, Kosovo on the 22nd of July presenting an interdisciplinary programme of artistic & urban interventions, performances, events and workshops until its closing on the 30th of October. Manifesta 14 responds to Prishtina’s call and the global need to reclaim and reimagine public spaces. An Urban Vision and biennial interventions by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati as well as a series of Citizen Consultations and in-depth research by Manifesta 14’s Education team have inspired a multi-layered artistic and urbanistic programme.
Under the title it matters what worlds world worlds: how to tell stories otherwise, the artistic programme was developed by Creative Mediator Catherine Nichols with the Manifesta 14 team and in close collaboration with local collectives, artists, scholars, architects and activists.
