IBA Conversations: with Lumbung Gallery
“New Prospects for Economic Sustainability”
Date: July 12, 2022
Time: 4:00pm – 5:30pm (Sharjah/GMT+4)
With our upcoming IBA Conversations session we continue the exploration of alternative financing strategies to create more viable and sustainable models for biennials by building on the recent experience proposed by Ruangrupa for Documenta Fifteen.
We would like to reflect on and discuss with all our members specifically on the creation of the Lumbung Gallery (https://documenta-fifteen.de/en/lumbung-gallery/) – an independent body, part of the wider lumbung system, set up to handle any sale or loan between the artists (especially those who do not have any gallery representation so far) and interested institutions or collectors.
There are a number of aspects linked to this new body which we believe could inspire new forms of financing art works rendering the labor of the artists we all work with more fair and sustainable, from the way the prices for the works are determined to the redistribution of the profits from the sales as well as the formal set up of the “Gallery” itself.
We are particularly happy to have with us representatives of Lumbung Gallery as well as the wider Lumbung collective who will introduce us to the model as well as give us a sense of how they have developed it.
Do let us know if you have any questions about this upcoming event by contacting us at info@biennialassociation.org. We look forward to having you there!
As IBA Conversations is meant as a safe space for discussions we ask those of you interested in participating to register through the link below as the event will not be streamed and only registered individuals will be able to join.
