STATEMENT FROM THE EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS OF IBA
As an association founded on the principles of intercultural dialogue and exchange, we strongly condemn the current military attacks and invasion of Ukraine by the present Russian regime and we call for the immediate end to the ongoing violence against all people, regardless of their nationality, creed and skin color.
As the International Biennial Association, we have always supported projects aimed at fostering the dialogue between institutions and individuals and have operated in strong opposition to a vision of the world divided by nationalisms and any other form of cultural isolationism. In these dire moments in which the madness of few individuals is prevailing over the voices of civil societies, we feel the need to reiterate the importance of democratic dialogue through the universal language of culture.
We will continue to stand by all those whose voices are being silenced. With the goal of offering meaningful actions to accompany our words, we have scheduled an emergency event offering impacted individuals of the biennial community and the wider cultural field to create spaces for discussions regarding practical support to those most affected by the ongoing war.
We call upon members of IBA and the biennial community as a whole to come together to consider various means of support to be explored in order to provide assistance to fellow professionals whose futures have become vulnerable due to the continued instability.
On behalf of the Executive Board Members of the International Biennial Association (IBA),
- Hoor Al Qasimi, President of IBA, President of Sharjah Art Foundation
- Bige Örer, Vice President of IBA, Director of Istanbul Biennial
- Gabriele Horn, Vice President, Director of the Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art
